The Elementary School for Sustainable Design
Education
The Elementary School for Sustainable Design will be an educational facility where all students learn at a rigorous academic and real-world level and where they own their educational processes. It will truly be a school where no child is left behind.
The fundamental pedagogical foundation of the school is hands-on, project based Service Learning. All teaching and learning will be completely aligned with grade appropriate curriculums and state mandated standards.
We recognize that students have different instructional needs. To meet those needs, we will follow the differentiated instruction model with a commitment to data-driven decision making around such issues as curriculum, instruction, best practices, school improvement, and projects.
Sustainability
The overarching, real-world focus of the Elementary School for Sustainable Design is sustainability, the foremost issue of the 21st century. To this end, mastery of our curriculum will be driven by projects that include high performance, sustainable design, "green" architecture, the environment, alternative energy, water related issues and technology. The physical facility itself will be a model of green design that will be used to educate our students, staff, and the community about sustainable design principles.
Our commitment is to create a true community school. To this end, the school will also function as a “green” meeting place for community events.
Leadership
The Elementary School for Sustainable Design will prepare our young citizens to function and lead successfully in the marketplace and culture of sustainability.
It is an educational institution that will be a rich milieu for students to become academically advanced and models of exemplary, responsible citizenship.
Partnerships
With our Professional Partners and aligned with an Institution of Higher Ed., the Elementary School for Sustainable Design will be a world class teaching and learning lab that will function as a professional learning community characterized by collaborative teams, an orientation towards action, a willingness to experiment, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a focus on results.
