On Sunday, November 5, 2006 in the Opinion section of the New York Times, the distinguished educator and author, Stanley Fish, posted a follow up blog to an entry he wrote in late October, 2006. In the piece, "Always Academicize: My Response to the Responses", Dr. Fish reiterates that the role of educators is to teach, not to espouse a political doctrine or to redress social injustice. Dr. Fish argues that the inviolate necessity for objectivity in the classroom on the part of educators does not at all preclude the possibility or even the desirability that teachers should be active politically or socially. It is when that personal bias is brought into the classroom and which has no relationship to the course of study, that the students are dealt a serious injustice.
